FAQs

Everything you might want to know about bespoke joinery and fitted furniture.
Whether you’re planning a wardrobe, a media wall, or a full kitchen, these are the questions people ask most. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just get in touch — I’m always happy to help.
Prices, Quotes & Payments
How do your quotes work?
Every project is priced on measurements, materials and build time. Once I’ve seen your space and talked through what you want, I’ll send you a clear, fixed quote. There are no hidden extras — what you see is what you pay.
Do you charge for a home visit?
No. Home visits are completely free. It helps me measure properly, understand the space and make sure the design will actually work in real life.
Do you require a deposit?
Yes. I usually take a 50% deposit to book the job and secure materials. The remaining balance is paid once everything is installed.
Can you work to my budget?
Usually, yes. I can suggest materials, layouts or small design tweaks that keep your project within a realistic budget without compromising build quality.
Design & Planning
Do you offer design help?
Absolutely. Most people don’t know exactly what they want at the start. I’ll measure, sketch ideas, show examples, and guide you through layouts, finishes and materials.
Can you match existing furniture or colours?
Yes — I can colour-match to Farrow & Ball, Dulux Trade, and most standard paint ranges. If you have existing furniture, I can get close to the same style and finish.
Do you provide drawings?
Yes. For most projects, you’ll get simple design drawings so you can visualise the layout and check that everything is right before I start building.
Materials & Build Quality
What materials do you use?
I use strong, long-lasting materials like birch ply, MDF, hardwood fronts, and premium hinges/runners. No flimsy chipboard or flat-pack components.
Where is everything built?
Everything is made by hand in my workshop in Harrogate. Nothing is ordered in and nothing is mass-produced.
Can I choose any finish?
Pretty much. You can choose painted, matt, satin, natural wood, oak, walnut, or a sprayed finish. If you’ve seen something you love, I can usually recreate it.
Installation & Practicalities
Do you install everything yourself?
Yes — I handle the full job from start to finish. I don’t use subcontractors, so you always know exactly who’s in your home.
How long does installation take?
Most installations take 1–2 days, depending on the size of the project. Kitchens and large builds may take slightly longer — but I’ll tell you before we start.
Do I need to empty the room?
It’s helpful, but not essential. I work cleanly and protect the space properly. I’ll always leave the room tidy at the end of each day.
Will it be messy?
Not really. All cutting and sanding is done in the workshop. Only final adjustments happen in your home, and I use dust sheets and extraction to keep things clean.
Booking & Areas Covered
How far do you travel?
I’m based in Harrogate and usually work in Harrogate, York, Knaresborough, Ripon, Wetherby and nearby areas. For bigger projects, I’m happy to travel further.
How do I book in?
Just send a message with a few photos of the space and what you’re thinking. We can book a free visit from there.
