A bespoke home office in Ilkley, with built-in storage, an oak worktop and plenty of room to work, study and do homework.
This home office project in Ilkley was built around a simple problem: the family needed more than one person to be able to use the room properly.
It had to work for home working, studying and homework, without feeling cramped or turning into another room full of loose papers, chargers and laptops.
Making the most of the room
We built an L-shaped oak worktop around two walls and underneath the window. This made good use of the available space and gave the family a few different places to sit and work.
Sockets and cable ports were built into the desk, so laptops, screens and chargers can be plugged in without wires running across the worktop.
Storage where it is needed
We added a tall cupboard, lower cupboards, drawers and open shelving.
The cupboards give the family space to store paperwork and equipment out of sight, while the open shelves are useful for books and the things they want close to hand.
A simple, practical finish
The cabinetry was finished in a soft green, with matching tongue-and-groove panelling behind the desk. The oak worktop adds warmth and works well with the darker handles.
The finished room feels practical without looking too office-like. It fits naturally into the house and gives the family a proper shared workspace they can all use when they need it.
